Weather & Activity Policy
Ensuring Safe Adventures in Palau's Dynamic Climate
1. Introduction
At Palau Explorer, we are committed to providing safe, authentic experiences on land and at sea - while prioritizing your well-being above all else. Our tours operate under most weather conditions, but we reserve the right to modify or cancel activities if conditions pose a risk to participant safety. This policy outlines our approach to weather-related decisions, communication, and guest responsibilities.
2. General Policy
We conduct all booked tours unless weather conditions are deemed unsafe by our team. Safety is non-negotiable: we balance adventure with caution to ensure every guest has a positive, secure experience.
3. Dangerous Conditions
Tours may be canceled or modified for the following reasons:
- Ocean Tours: Severe storms, typhoons, or sea conditions (e.g., sustained winds >25 knots, wave heights >3 meters) that make navigation or water activities hazardous.
- Land Tours: Extreme heat (>35°C/95°F), heavy rainfall causing slippery trails or landslides, lightning storms, or other conditions that compromise trail safety.
Our staff (captains for ocean tours, guides for land tours) use real-time weather data (e.g., NOAA, local meteorological services) and on-site assessments to determine safety.
Key Exceptions: Tours are canceled only for severe storms making ocean travel dangerous or typhoons. Minor weather changes (e.g., light rain) typically do not affect tours.
4. Decision-Making Process
- Forecast Monitoring: We track weather forecasts daily and adjust plans proactively.
- On-Site Assessment: Captains/guides evaluate conditions at the start of each tour and may delay or cancel if risks emerge.
- Collaboration: Decisions are made in consultation with our operations team to ensure consistency and safety.
5. Communication
If a tour is canceled or modified due to weather:
- We will contact you via email and phone at least 24 hours in advance (when possible).
- For last-minute changes (e.g., sudden storms), we will notify you immediately via the contact details provided at booking.
- Updates will be posted on our website and social media channels.
6. Refunds & Rescheduling
- Cancellation by Palau Explorer: You will receive a full refund for any canceled activity, processed within 5–7 business days.
- Rescheduling Option: You may reschedule your tour for another date (subject to availability) within 12 months of the original booking date at no additional cost.
Guarantee: We stand behind our commitment to safety. If we cancel a tour due to weather, you’ll receive a full refund without hassle.
7. Guest Responsibilities
To help us ensure your safety:
- Check weather forecasts before your trip and pack appropriate gear (e.g., rain jacket, sunscreen, sturdy shoes).
- Follow all instructions from our staff during tours, especially in changing weather.
- Notify us of any health concerns that may be exacerbated by weather (e.g., asthma in dusty conditions).
8. Flexibility During Tours
If weather improves or worsens during a tour, our staff may adjust the itinerary (e.g., shorten a hike, switch to a sheltered activity) to maintain safety. We appreciate your understanding in these situations.
9. Disclaimer
Weather in Palau can change rapidly. While we strive to provide accurate information, unforeseen conditions may arise. By booking with us, you acknowledge that some activities may be altered or canceled for safety reasons—and we will handle such cases per this policy.
